This is the first Technic set that I have bought, and I bought it with the intention of building it alongside my 4 year old son. It was still too difficult for him to do, though, so I ended up building it while he watched, which he enjoyed (The set is recommended for ages 7-14, so I really didn't expect my son to be able to assemble this on his own). As an adult, I though the build was fun and not too challenging, although it seemed a bit more difficult than normal Lego sets. This might be partially because it doesn't really begin to look like the finished product until the very end, and building isn't done from bottom to top like standard Lego creations.As a toy, however, this set really stands out. The car is a good size to play with, and my son and I have spent a lot of time running it down both ends of our hardwood hallway. The pull-back motor is strong, and the rubber tires work well, although if the tires or your floor are too dusty, the car will spin out when you release it. The pull back motor is so strong that it helps to give the car a bit of a push to keep it from spinning the tires and wasting all the energy.Since this is a Lego brand toy, and as I had no prior experience with Technic sets, I thought we would be spending a lot of time putting the car back together after crashes. I'm happy to report that only rarely do parts come off, and then usually only parts on the front wing, which is very prone to crash abuse. This section is also very easy to put back on, and my son seems to really get a kick when it comes apart. It's a good mixture, where you can get a small amount of crash carnage, but not so much that it gets annoying and affects play.In all, I would recommend this car for kids 6 or older or so, or for anyone with kids old enough not to put the parts in their mouths, if they have parents or someone else who can put it together for them. It's a fun toy to assemble, and to play with, and the finish and quality are very good, and are what I have come to expect from the Lego brand.
