Ushama was born to the daughter of Hiranyakasipa Usha and Bhrugu maharshi. Kubera the god of wealth was ill-treating the poor and sages, being very powerful sage Ushama captured all the wealth of Kubera to teach him a lesson. Kubera complained Lord Shiva about this. Lord shiva got angry and was about to punish Ushama. Ushama being great devotee of Lord Shiva, managed to get inside the Shiva’s stomach and explained him the facts.

Shiva was pleased by Ushama’s reason and prayers, vent him out through his sperm ( shukla ) from his body. Ushama was reborn on year named Manmadha, 11th day of Chaithra masa and under Makha Nakshatra. Ushama was renamed as Shukra because he came out of Shiva’s stomach through shukla. Shiva blessed him as teacher of rakshas and made him the lord of wealth.
