Hi, this is Dr. Kirk Lozada. I'm a facial plastic surgeon and rhinoplasty specialist at Penn Medicine, Becker ENT. And this is Two Minute Consults.

In my practice I prefer to do trans-conjunctival blepharoplasty when we can, simply because it avoids touching the muscle if we don't need to touch that at all. We can similarly treat skin if we need to, by removing some skin with what's called a skin pinch or doing something like a laser or a chemical peel. It's a very rejuvenating procedure and can typically be accompanied by other procedures such as mid-face fat grafting for the best results. A lower blepharoplasty surgery can be effectively done in the office, similar to an upper eyelid lift. With local anesthesia, as well as some mild sedation, we can make the patient very comfortable to remove the puffiness underneath their eyes, as well as even doing mid facial fat grafting to improve the facial volume of their cheeks and improve the contour of the lower eyelid.
