Bruges (Brugge, Brügge 2024) is the biggest city of West-Flanders in Belgium. Brugge has a population of 120,000 of which 20,000 live in the historic centre. The metropolitan area of Bruges has approximately 250,000 inhabitants. The medieval city centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The centre has many canals. Therefore it is referred to as the Venice of the North alone with the cities of Amsterdam and St. Petersburg. Some highlights of the city are the Belfry, the City Hall, the Church of Our Lady in Bruges and the medieval city centre with the canals.
