The LA Times reported that around 1871, a massive cave-in struck the Union Mine at Cerro Gordo - one of the richest silver mines in California. Local papers claimed between eight and thirty miners were buried alive, their bodies never recovered. For over a century, the story became legend…but few ever went down to see if it was true.

In this video, I go deep underground into the original mine to investigate the truth behind Cerro Gordo’s deadliest accident. Using historical records, maps, and new exploration footage, we uncover what might really have happened that day - and where the men could still rest today.
