The two sample t-test is used to determine if two population means are equal. A common application is to test if a new process or treatment is superior to a current process or treatment. The variances of the two samples may be assumed to be equal or unequal. Equal variances yield somewhat simpler formulas, although with computers this is no longer a significant issue.
The 2-sample t-test takes your sample data from two groups and boils it down to the t-value. The process is very similar to the 1-sample t-test, and you can still use the analogy of the signal-to-noise ratio. Unlike the paired t-test, the 2-sample t-test requires independent groups for each sample.
Most exams will ask you to use a calculator to obtain the result of two sample t-test and with the steps shown in the video, it is easy to solve most IB examination questions.
