Kemi Badenoch responded to a Tory backbencher who suggested she was too focused on her children to be party leader, saying parenting is a "two-person job."

Badenoch, the favourite to become Conservative Party leader, emphasised that fathers need to step up more, after Sir Christopher Chope questioned her ability to lead while raising her three children.

Chope, 77, faced criticism for being out of touch after suggesting she might lack the "time and energy" to combine motherhood with leadership. In contrast, her rival, Robert Jenrick, also has three children.

Peter Cardwell speaks with Tory MP for West Adberdeenshire and Kincardine, Andrew Bowie.
