What Did You Learn in School Today?

In the 1960s there was a great folk-music evolution, the singer-songwriter. All these young people - inspired by Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and the other greats - coming up with all sorts of songs. Tom Paxton was one of these American folk artist who wrote his own songs. He wrote love songs, political songs or children tunes. Commercial success was no priority, he was just trying to write the best song he could. “The Last Thing On My Mind”, “Ramblin' Boy” and “My Son, John” along with many others are fantastic compositions.
This song “What Did You Learn in School Today?” is also a gem and really fun to play on the banjo.

Vele jongeren - geïnspireerd door Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie en de andere grootheden – schrijven allerlei liedjes. Tom Paxton was een van deze folk artiesten die zijn eigen nummers schreef. Hij schreef liefdesliedjes, politieke nummers of kinderliedjes. Commercieel succes was niet zijn prioriteit, hij probeerde het beste liedje te schrijven dat hij kon.
