The next step in making the "Next Generation Speech Synthesizer" for the CPC 464 - let's call it LambdaSpeak from now on ;-)
The AVR 328 firmware is now able to emulate the Amstrad SSA-1 Speech Synthesizer. Some games (such as "Roland in Space") use the SSA-1.

Next, I will make PCB version 2. It will have 2 modes:

the native Emic 2 speech synthesis, as shown in my other videos,    • Next-Generation Speech Synthesizer for the...  ,
and the SSA-1 emulation mode, as shown in this video.

Note that it is impossible to have synchronous speech with the Emic 2 - the speech allophones always have to be buffered first. This explains why, in this video, the "talking head" first talks "silently", and the speech is heard after a delay. The AVR 328 uses some time-based buffering criterion to figure out when to speak (either the buffer is full, or the last allophone was sent more than "x" milliseconds ago).
