What Happened To The Medieval People Of Wharram Percy?

Описание к видео What Happened To The Medieval People Of Wharram Percy?

Wharram Percy is known as the 'best' deserted medieval village. Today it sits in Yorkshire as a reminder of the Middle Ages, and in the past few decades archaeological excavations have taken place which have brought us closer to understanding Medieval people or peasants. Wharram Percy had a rich history as a settlement dating back centuries, however the question that has stumped experts for years is, 'What happened to the Medieval people there?' Many people wrongly assume that the Black Death was infact the reason for the desertion, however it was much less gruesome than that.

We have found remains of the houses in which the peasant farmers and the lords lived in, and we even have found remains of those people. We know that there were a number of different houses and longhouses in the village, as well as roads and also a couple of manors. The peasants of Wharram Percy were farmers, farmers who worked on their own strips of land and tried to make profit from their wares. We know they also attended the church, of which remains still today and this is what life would have centered around.

Join us today though as we show you around the remarkable deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy, and unearth the stories of the villages inhabitants and find out why they left the settlement.
