The First-ever Ferromagnetic Quasicrystals

Описание к видео The First-ever Ferromagnetic Quasicrystals

Quasicrystals, solids with forbidden rotational symmetries and aperiodic long-range ordering of atoms, are expected to hold the keys to the next phase of human technological evolution. However, no physical property of quasicrystals reflecting their peculiar order has yet been observed, limiting our understanding of these strange solids.

In a new study published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, researchers from Tokyo University of Science (#TUS) have now reported the very first observation of long-range magnetic order in icosahedral quasicrystals, heralding the dawn of a new era in condensed matter physics.
