The US has just made a big announcement which impacts everyone in the world...

Starting 25th June, the US visa officers as well as immigration staff at the point of entry will be checking people’s social media accounts to determine whether they want such a person to be granted right of entry to the US or not...

So you need to have a public account that they can verify. Private accounts are supposedly said to be rejected on visas...

As of now this declaration has come mostly for students traveling to the US...

But it is expected that this will be extended to other categories of travellers over a period of time...

You could have a valid visa too, and even then the immigration officers can stop you.

They won’t just check whether you have spoken against the US government or civilians “hostile attitute”, but even if you are in support with countries that the US may consider it’s enemies in some form.

And while the US has started it, I’m absolutely certain other countries will soon follow in these footsteps and enforce such rights on checking of social media before deciding to grant entry.

So if you think you could be traveling anywhere, for studies, for business, for vacation...

Please ensure you do not give your unnecessary opinions about other countries online. It’s best to be quiet, especially in these times when the world alliances among countries are changing.

Going forward, I feel right to free online opinion would be restricted to either the very rich who can buy strong passports... or to the poor who never have any ambitions of traveling abroad, and wouldn’t believe that that would change.

If you are in the middle like the most of us... best to not offer any unnecessary views on geopolitics of other countries if you wish to safeguard your future career prospects, travel prospects and business prospects.
