Описание к видео Young@Heart – Splendid Isolation (In Memory of Norman Moreau – 1933-2025)

Norman Moreau (1933-2025) performing Splendid Isolation in MISS YOU, our first virtual show in 2020.

Young@Heart grieves the passing of our beloved chorus member Norman Moreau. Norman joined the group in 2014. Those of you who have been following the chorus for the last 13 years will recognize Norman’s amazing work with the chorus, whether it be his spectacular rendition of Bowie’s “Let’s Dance”, his Tears for Fears version of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” (dressed as a ring master) or this pandemic-era, show-stopping rendition of Warren Zevon’s “Splendid Isolation”, filmed right from his home. There are so many others.

It was never just Norman. It’s always been Norman and his wife Rosalie, who got married in 1959 and were in their 66th year of marriage. Everyone in the chorus has always looked up to their love and sweetness; we have many moving pictures of the two of them hugging at rehearsal. They lived in the home where Norman was born in Chicopee in 1933 – but both Rosalie and Norman had an adventurous spirit. They loved touring with the group and loved travelling in general; they particularly enjoyed going on cruises. Our love and embrace goes out to Rosalie and their daughter Karen.

There are so many memories created by the Moreaus. We witnessed their enormous commitment to Young@Heart. In spite of all the aches and pains over the years, they showed up for every rehearsal, show or tour they could. When we were in Utrecht, The Netherlands in 2018 on the opening night of our tour, Norman, dressed as the ringmaster, took a couple of steps backwards after his opening number and fell. The audience thought it was a part of the show until they realized it wasn’t. Norman performed in every show on that tour after that, completely bruised and sore. There was nothing he enjoyed more than being in front of an audience.

Norman also had a great sense of humor, and was very good at improvising lyrics when he couldn’t quite remember the words to his songs. Most recently he sang Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” on stage, but in rehearsals he turned the lyrics into “Purple Sex”, sending the whole chorus into a fit of laughter.

We share these videos of the songs mentioned above and one more of Rosalie and Norman discussing their first kiss.

We will all miss you so much, Norman. You were a great man and Young@Heart old school to the core.
