This is my first attempt at an escapement mechanism, which is the mechanism that allows mechanical clocks to function. This is the start of a series where I explore a bunch of different mechanisms like this that release potential energy slowly. As the weight drops, the gravitational potential energy is transferred to the escapement wheel. The anchor prevents the weight from dropping all at once, which is regulated by the movement of the pendulum. The longer the pendulum, the slower the clock ticks!
