The Volvo B9TL CDGE is the oldest bus in Singapore. The bus was entered into service in 2006. The bus was also the first Wheelchair bus in Singapore. The bus was the first Version of the Volvo B9TL in Singapore. And the bus was built to succeed the 2-axle Volvo B7TL and the 3-axle Volvo B10TL chassis. The bus is currently operated by SBS Transit only. With a total of 200 units of the Volvo B9TL CDGE. Infact, the Volvo B9TL is the most popular bus in Singapore. And, Singapore is the only country to have the Volvo B9TL with a CDGE bodywork. The Volvo B9TL CDGE has been in operation for 15 years. As the bus is getting old, they refurbished all Volvo B9TL CDGE buses in 2018. All Volvo B9TL CDGE buses are now painted with green lush livery. And all seats have been replaced from yellow to red. The bus have many changes from several years ago. Without this bus, then there will be no wheelchair buses in Singapore. Many people believe that all Volvo B9TL CDGE buses will be phased out in the year 2026. However, on March 2021, several Volvo B9TL (CDGE) buses were taken out of revenue service, having been on the roads for about 15 years (out of their 17-year statutory lifespan). These buses were also in fairly good interior condition, having undergone refurbishment work less than 3 years prior. 21 of the Volvo B9TL CDGE were phased out and later replaced by MAN A95 (Euro 6) – Batch 2 buses. As according on 29 March 2021, there are 179 units remaining of the Volvo B9TL CDGE buses. 179 Volvo B9TL CDGE buses are still in operation till they all phase out in the coming years. This is the first time phasing out the WAB buses in Singapore. When all Volvo B9TL CDGE are gone, only 1576 Volvo B9TL Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 buses and 1 Volvo B9TL Gemilang Coachwork remaining in Singapore. Some people were hoping to see one of the Volvo B9TL CDGE will preserved in any places. Well time will tell and we still have enough time left before they are all gone forever. And as for now, we will truly miss the Volvo B9TL CDGE bus when they are long gone. And for those who like and manage to ride the Volvo B9TL CDGE bus, then you are a lucky person.
