Media Organisation Arena Holdings has described the South African digital marketplace as imbalanced, distorted and flawed.
The company says misinformation dissemination has become prevalent in digital platforms with the lack of controls threatening the journalism profession.
Arena has blamed this on what it describes as the geo-policy of Google and Facebook which it says poses a threat to independent media organisations' viability.
Arena Holdings publishes some of the country's largest and oldest newspapers stables including The Sowetan, Sunday Times and Business Day.
It appeared before the Media and Digital Platforms Market Inquiry that is being held by the Competition Commission.
