Mamta Sapera | Culture and Communications Fellow

As part of our new series 'Introducing our Fellows', meet our first fellow, Mamta Sapera.

Mamta is the first woman folk instrument percussionist from the Kalbelia community of Rajasthan. She is 19 and a part of the Culture & Communication cluster with 9 other fellows, all from nomadic & folk performing arts communities of Rajasthan. Mamta lives & works in Jaipur. She is interested in teaching folk instruments, and in sharing her learnings about democracy & constitutional values with others from her community. When needed, she helps with mobilising the Kalbelia community in Jaipur. Against all odds, she passionately worked towards her dream of becoming a famous musician from her community. She is an inspiration to many girls and women from her community, rural Rajasthan and all over India.
