Navigating Uncertainty: Public Health in the Face of Misinformation and Transition

Our 11th Annual Touro University, California Public Health Speaker Series continues its tradition of convening national experts to address timely and complex issues affecting community health. This year’s series features four distinguished speakers who will examine two critical themes:

1. The rise and impact of misinformation and disinformation on public health, and
2. The Health Experiences of Newcomers in the current political climate.

Belonging and Barriers: How Policy Environments Shape the Health of Newcomers

Synopsis: This session features Dr. Tina Sacks and Dr. Maria-Elena Young, who will discuss how policy environments and social contexts influence the health, belonging, and well-being of newcomers in California and across the United States. Drawing from their research and community collaborations, both scholars will explore how systemic barriers and resilience intersect to shape the lived experiences of newcomers. The session will highlight opportunities for advancing equity and fostering health and belonging through public health practice and policy. These conversations will shed light on how shifting political contexts, online environments, and systemic challenges influence health outcomes across communities.
