Two Color dual extruder by layer height: 3D printer model

Описание к видео Two Color dual extruder by layer height: 3D printer model

This is designed for people who might be just starting out in Cura and want to learn how to do a simple 2-color print, where the color is based on layer height. Being very inexperienced in Cura, it took me much longer than I thought it should to figure this out.. But this could be a user limitation :).

My model is a simple parts (screws) bin with raised lettering, and I want the lettering in a different color. Since I have a dual extruder Ultimaker S3, I want to automate the process by using two colors in the two extruders. I just switched to Cura and it took me much too long to figure this out.. so I thought I'd document the mechanics of it, in case it might help another. It is not a pro level presentation. I do not profess to fully understand all intricacies of the support blockers, nor the mesh modifiers .. I'm just showing the mechanics of a process that worked for me. Hopefully, in the near future, this might have a better UI, based on simply specifying a range of layers or height and associating it with an extruder.

Since the creation of this video, I have discovered that after you set up one model with support blockers, simply load more boxes with same physically dimensions, extend the support blocker boxes created earlier to cover all models and the second extruder will do the color change for all models. No additional support blockers need be created.
