Today we're taking a look at a Universal Installation Kit for trailer brake controllers. This kit includes the wiring and accessories that are required for installation of a trailer brake controller.Brake controllers are sold separately and are available at etrailer.com. This kit is designed for use on vehicles that have an existing four-way flat trailer connector. This plug right here plugs in to the existing four-way on your vehicle, and then you have a few other connections that need to be made. The butt connectors are already connected to the light blue and red wires, and then you also have a white wire with a ring terminal attached to it. That's gonna be your ground wire. Now, if your vehicle does not already have four-way flat trailer connector installed, the etrailer.com application guide can be used to find the easy-to-install connector that is made specifically for your vehicle.
So with this video, what I really want to do is just simply go over everything that comes with part number ETBC6.You get 25 foot of 10-gauge duplex wire. It's wrapped in an abrasion-resistant covering to protect it. You will need to connect one wire the the blue wire on your brake controller, and then connect one wire to the positive post on the vehicle battery, in conjunction with the included 40-amp circuit breaker. If you drive a crew cab, extended cab with a long bed, cargo van, minivan, or extended-length SUV, I'd go ahead and pick up 10 foot of extra wire. It's gonna make your installation a lot easier for those extended length vehicles. You can purchase that separately with part number ETBCXW.Now this right here is your pre-wired six-way and four-way flat trailer connector.
It has a nice spring-loaded lid, so that automatically shuts. That's gonna keep dirt and moisture away from those terminals. And then right here, we have the cover that goes over the four-way connection point, as well, so it's all protected. But again, this is your pre-wired six-way and four-way flat trailer connector. It mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with the included mounting bracket and the included mounting hardware.
Again, it features the nice spring-loaded cover that goes over the six-way, and it has a dust cap for the four-way. Those covers are designed to keep dirt and moisture away from the connection points which will prevent rust and corrosion to those terminals. It comes with three circuit breakers, one 20-amp, one 30-amp, and one 40-amp. Three are provided, but only two are used. You wanna to refer to your brake controller's instructions to see if it requires the 20-amp or 30-amp circuit breaker. The 40-amp is for the hot lead that connects to the positive post on vehicle battery. It also comes with a circuit tester, which helps you find the stop light switch wire above the brake pedal.
All the hardware for the installation is included, so you get your ring terminals, quick-splice wire connectors, butt connectors, self-tapping screws, zip ties, and your wire loom. The zip ties and the wire loom help secure any excess or slack in the wiring, and offers a nice, professionally-installed appearance. It also comes with detailed installation instructions and a step-by-step guide that Etrailer put together for you. That's gonna take you through the entire process step-by-step. That's gonna do it for today's look at the Universal installation Kit for trailer brake controllers.
