Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting..

A beautiful and well playing final year, 1968 Gibson Country Western Guitar with the original Gibson Softshell Case. This guitar has been played ... a lot but its in fantastic shape and sounds even better than it looks!

The guitar was a one owner guitar. It was bought new in 1968 to tour with the USO. The Player was a band mate to Tom Bedell, owner of Bedell and Breedlove guitars. He toured with it a lot and during one stage dismount, ran into another musician and cracked the back. It is professionally repaired properly with cleats. See pic 12. Hard to see but its there and properly repaired... Other than the back cracks, this guitar is awesome. Nice finish crazing and the bridge is rock solid on the flat top. The frets were crowned not too long ago and are in beautiful shape. Nice amber'd bindings, original truss rod cover, nut and Kluson Double Line Tuners. The best part is the player never had a strap button installed on it. I love that he only used headstock straps and didn't introduce a foreign strap button to the neck....

The neck angle is still awesome. No need for a neck reset on this one. The playing action is excellent and it has been played plenty around here. WE love this one! Its the third Country Western we have had in the shop. I used one as a daily player for years. Grab this one before I decide to keep it!!

These guitar have a great voice to sing with. It compliments rather than dominating vocalists.. It has that sound that has graced many recordings we all loved from the 1960’s!

Heres some info on these cool guitars..

The Country Western was the natural finished version of the SJ or Southern Jumbo, though there are some earlier examples that are referred to as the Southern Jumbo as well. The Country Western was made a distinct model starting in 1956, though after 1960 it began being termed the SJ-N as well. Like other Gibson acoustic models, the Country Western switched rom a sloped shoulder to a square shoulder body shape in late 1962.

Years of Production: 1956 - 1969

Body Style: Square shoulder Dreadnought

Wood Composition: Mahogany back and sides, Spruce top, Rosewood fingerboard

Design Elements: 24 3/4-inch scale length, split parallellogram inlays, long pickguard

Notable Players: Hank Williams Jr.

The original Alligator Print brown Gibson Case is as nice as the guitar. He didn’t use it to transport the guitar to gigs. It was too nice. It was kept it in a safe place to preserve this historic case. The original hinges, latches and original handle are still here and working properly. No tears or breaks anywhere. The interior is very nice. No musty odors or funny business with this case.

A beautiful historic guitar that is a blast to play. NO sore fingers with this one. The action is excellent. It still has tons of songs left in it.

Sold as-is as its vintage and used..however, I have been hand picking my customers guitars for over 20 years now and they have all loved the instruments I find. This one will not be an exception.

Thanks for checking out our cool guitars!
