Launched in 1963, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona has been married to motorsports since day one. This Rolex Daytona 6239 represents an example of the first Rolex Daytona reference, and its serial number in the 1-million range places this Daytona's date of production between 1964 and 1965. With a 36.5mm stainless steel case, a plexiglas crystal, a tritium dial, and Valjoux 72-based manual wind Rolex caliber 72B, this Cosmograph is distinctly different from the modern day version of the watch.

This vintage Rolex Daytona exhibits typical wear from regular but careful use. The bezel, which is correct to the serial range and calibrated to 300 units, is in excellent condition with no loss of definition on its edges or lacquer in its markings

Its dial is best described as 75-80% intact, and evidence of tarnish is evident at the base and upper left corner; marks are of cosmetic consequences only. Indices, hands, and the Rolex crown appliqué logo are in excellent condition. The "inverse panda" silver sub-registers show evidence of tarnish that does not impede legibility.

Inside the case, a Rolex caliber 72B exhibits outstanding condition. The physical appearance rates a score of 85-90% of original factory condition. Rolex modifications include the quality and finishing of bridges, plates, screws, and train wheels. The balance has been modified by Rolex to include a free-sprung architecture, and the flat hairspring has been replaced by a Breguet overcoil. Specifications include column wheel with lateral clutch, 17 jewels, manual winding with a 48-hour power reserve, and a beat rate of 18,000 VpH.

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 6239 is encased in 36.5mm of stainless steel surrounding a black dial on a black leather strap. Features of this Rolex Cosmograph Daytona include hours, minutes, small seconds and chronograph. This Rolex watch also measures 13.4mm in thickness and 43.7mm from lug-to-lug.
