Walker Nursing Assistive Devices Mobility NCLEX

Описание к видео Walker Nursing Assistive Devices Mobility NCLEX

A nursing review over walkers (an assistive device for mobility): This review will demonstrate how to check if a walker fits properly, how to ambulate with a walker, and how to sit down and get up in a chair with a walker.

To ensure proper fit of a walker the walker must be adjusted prior to usage. The hand grips of the walker should be even with the wrist crease when the arms dangle at the patient's side. In addition, the elbow should be flexed at about a 15-30 degree angle.

Before ambulating (during the learning stages) with a walker, the patient should wear a gait belt for safety and the nurse should stand on the patient's weak side. The patient will position the walker so that the back tips of the walker are even with the middle of the foot.

To ambulate with a walker, the patient will lift and move the walker forward, then move the weak side, place weight on the hand grips of the walker, and then move the strong side.

Watch the video to see a complete demonstration on how to sit down and get up from a chair with a cane.
