So many times your doctor advises you to take fish at least twice a week.this is advised for 2 purposes .Firstly to protect your heart from heart attacks & secondly to improve your situation if you had a heart attack in the past.
The dose of twice a week is 4-8 ounces per week which is around 250 grams per week.
One of the main reasons of advice to eat fish is because fatty fish contains Omega-3 Fatty Acid which not only reduce inflammation in body as antioxidant but also reduce blood pressure and reduces triglycerides and also reduces irregular heart beats.
Famous Fatty fish containing omega 3 Fatty acids are sardines, salmons,tuna,Herring,Atlantic Mackerel.
But those fish which contain lot of Mercury or dioxins like shark,telifish,swordfish & King Mackerel should be avoided especially by pregnant females and young kids.
Inspite of use of antibacterial and germicidal medicines in farming fish according to FDA these are as good a choice as wild grown fish.
Those people who do not want or like to eat fish they can get Omega-3 Fatty Acid from alternate sources like chia seeds,canola oils,walnuts,flaxseed,flaxseed oils,soyabeans & Soya oils and also from Fortified foods like cereals etc which contain Omega-3 Fatty Acid.
