This video is Legacy Tale No. 97020, January 2004, in Prof. Victor M. Ponce's website ponce.sdsu.edu It tells the story of how the town of Porto Murtinho protected itself from the customary annual flooding by surrounding itself with a 3-m high polder, or perimetral earthen wall. We note that they did control the flooding, but this was at the expense of the loss of the view of the river.
