Several villages in Darjeeling remain cut off days after devastating landslides and flash floods triggered by incessant rainfall swept through the region, leaving at least 30 people dead and many missing.

In Dudhia near Mirik, the collapse of the only bridge connecting the settlement to nearby towns has isolated residents, halting movement and tourism. Locals say they are struggling to access food, water, and basic supplies.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju visited Mirik to assess the situation and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s condolences, assuring full assistance to affected families.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also met victims in the worst-hit areas, announcing ₹5 lakh compensation for families of those killed and immediate relief for displaced residents.

Officials said rescue and restoration efforts are underway as authorities race to reconnect the isolated villages.
