An international delegation from the Organisation for security and Cooperation in Europe( O-S-C-E) led by Felipe Gonzalez, Spain's former Socialist Prime Minister, arrived in Belgrade to review the November 17 local elections.

Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic overturned the results of the elections which showed opposition victories - provoking a month of the biggest anti-government protests since Milosevic came to power in 1987.

Delegates from the O-S-C-E (Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe) team arrived in Belgrade Friday to begin their independent review of the disputed Serbian municipal elections.

Following opposition victories, Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic overturned the results of the November elections, citing voting irregularities

His decision was later backed by the courts.

The opposition parties had high hopes for their meeting with the O-S-C-E.

"From November 17, no no no after that, we would like to start dialogue, because dialogue is the base of democracy, about media and the other things because we are facing both very soon republican and parliamentarian as well as presidential elections. The O-S-C-E delegation first met with President Milosevic but later they gathered at the Hotel Hyatt and met with the opposition leaders.

The delegation was led by former Spanish prime minister Felipe Gonzalez.

He was greeted by Zoran Djindjic and Vuk Draskovic, the main Zajedno (opposition) leaders before they went off for their talks.
