Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Bug in the Map Charts in Excel for Democratic Republic of the Congo is misspelled.

Welcome back to another episode of the MrExcel netcast. In this episode, we're going to be discussing a bug in Excel that has been causing some frustration for users. Specifically, we'll be looking at how to properly map the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Office 365's new Map Charts feature.

Recently, a bug has been reported on the message boards where only four out of five countries are showing up on the map, even though all five are listed in the data. After some investigation, it was discovered that the issue lies with the spelling of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. For some reason, the map is not recognizing the country when it is spelled correctly with the final "o". This means that in order for the country to appear on the map, the final "o" must be removed from the spelling.

This is not only a frustrating issue for users, but also a slight to our friends in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. No one should have to spell their own country's name incorrectly just to have it show up on a map. However, there is a simple workaround for this bug. By using a custom format in the cells, we can make the country name appear correctly in both the cell and on the map. This trick can also be applied to other words that end in "o" to save time and avoid extra typing.

To use this workaround, simply select the cells with the country names, press Ctrl+1 to open the Format Cells menu, and choose the Custom option. Then, in the Type field, enter the @ symbol followed by "o". This will ensure that the final "o" is added to the end of the country name, making it appear correctly on the map. There is an odd bug in Office 365 - when you insert a map chart, it won't recognize the "Democratic Republic of the Congo". You have to misspell it as "Democratic Republic of the Cong". In this temporary episode, a bizarre workaround to get the final o back into the cell.
