As we prepare to dispose of 2024, one of the stories we will carry over to 2025 is whether Sharia Courts are coming to Oyo State.

The Supreme Council for Shari'ah in Nigeria, Oyo State chapter, planned to inaugurate a Sharia Court in Oyo State in January. The announcement triggered a backlash. It forced the Supreme Council to postpone the inauguration of the court. Coming when a banner proclaiming that "Jesus is not God" outside a mosque in Lekki, Lagos, triggered a social media-fueled controversy. And in Kwara State, Islamic activists brought down a billboard by a lawmaker wishing his constituents a Merry Christmas.
