Who Are the Koryo-Saram (고려사람)?

Like most things we talk about here, the story of 고려사람 is much longer and more detailed than a single video. This is a brief snapshot of a little known Korean diaspora - the ethnic Koreans in post-Soviet Union countries. There are large populations in Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, even Belarus and Estonia.

There are also Russian-citizen, ethnic Koreans who now live on Sakhalin Island. Due to a different immigration history, they may not consider themselves as Koryo Saram, and are typically distinguished by a different term of Sakhalin Koreans.
