Awake, O Sleeper [Peter Herbeck]

In Ephesians, St. Paul says to take no part in "unfruitful works of darkness," but instead expose them to the light. He says, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.” (c.f. Eph. 5:11-14).

In his General Audience of April 20, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI said, “It’s our very sleepiness to the presence of God that renders us insensitive to evil: we don’t hear God because we don’t want to be disturbed, and so we remain indifferent to evil.”

Peter encourages us this week to awaken, receive the light of Christ, and reject the works of darkness.
