Hey everyone,
I'm putting this album out there – and this whole new direction, really – with a bit of trepidation. To my ears, the result is pretty controversial. But then again, it's impossible to please everyone. So, here it is, for better or worse.
While working on the Crushing Wind dilogy "The Lightbound," I allowed myself to experiment with blending musical styles. Along the way, I ended up with a bunch of tracks that sounded different from our usual Melodic Power Metal. It turned into a mix of dance music (Synthwave, Techno, Disco) and classic Power Metal. I liked the result, but it didn't quite "fit" into the Crushing Wind concept. So, I decided to create a separate project for this kind of music (Dance Power Metal) and named it ThunderJet.
Anticipating some potential "outrage," I'll just say: give it a listen first, and then form your opinion. Honestly, many artists in the scene have been blending dance genres with Power Metal for a while now. The most prominent examples are probably Anton Kabanen's projects (Beast in Black and Battle Beast). Battle Beast's latest single is straight-up disco! Following Anton's lead, many other Power Metal artists have started incorporating dance elements into their work.
A lot of digital ink has been spilled on forums debating the "mainstreaming" or "selling out" of certain bands. But the fact remains: this trend is a thing now in what is, for the time being, still heavy music. And I, too, have taken notice of this aspect.
Until recently, even bands like Beast in Black and others would just add pop elements here and there or include one or two such tracks per album. I think I've taken it a step further – I've tried to fully merge dance styles with Power Metal. As far as I know, nobody has taken this "abomination" quite this far yet!
As for "The Lightbound" itself, it's not 100% what I envision for ThunderJet. There are some individual tracks that could still be classified as Power Metal. But the first proper ThunderJet album will be fully dedicated to the Dance Power Metal style. That said, "The Lightbound" still gives you a good idea of the direction.
A word of advice for the "trve" metalheads: I don't recommend you listen to ThunderJet, lest it shatter your faith in heavy music :)
For everyone else, I hope you enjoy the listen! And if you share your thoughts, I'll be happy to read them. All opinions on the content itself are welcome, except debates about the validity of AI-generated music as a concept. Arguing about that is pointless because it's already a reality of our world, whether we like it or not.
By the way, I actually prefer some of the versions on this album to the ones on the main album. For the main album, I tried hard to match the lyrics with the track's arrangement. Here, it was an experiment with no strict rules. But even so, I wouldn't say the arrangement drastically clashes with the lyrics. It's all within relative, acceptable limits. There's no dissonance like singing about grief and loss over happy, upbeat dance music. Still, I apologize in advance if you feel the lyrics don't match the track's arrangement. This is an experimental album, so please judge it with that in mind.
And so, traditionally... Metal is Forever!... :) Although, in this particular context, that battle cry looks kinda funny and might come across as trolling.
