IMPORTANT: Do a few voluntary fasts BEFORE Ramadan to TRY OUT A FEW OF THESE DIFFERENT WORKOUT TIMINGS. In Ramadan, pay close attention to how you feel and if you need to, modify or switch schedules.

OPTION 1: Workout 1 hour before suhoor
Ideal of fasting weight loss and Ramadan fat burn
Safe, no risk of dehydration
Lower risk for muscle loss as you can immediately enjoy suhoor as a post-workout meal
Great cardio and strength training in Ramadan, because there’s no difference to a non-fasted workout!
Ideal for Ramadan in winter timezone for late Suhoor
BUT may be impractical to wake up so early to exercise before suhoor
May sacrifice sleep or Qiyaam
⭐️ Finish your workout with ENOUGH time to eat suhoor. NEVER skip suhoor because you’re working out. You NEED to refuel your muscles and hydrate properly at suhoor. Also, don’t let working out take over your Ramadan nights. Remember that’s NOT the focus or purpose of Ramadan!

OPTION 2: Workout immediately after breaking your fast (BEFORE eating Iftar)
Break your fast with dates and water, pray Maghrib, workout immediately, then eat Iftar after you workout.
Ideal for improved cardio in Ramadan and strength training
Safe, no risk of dehydration
Low risk for muscle loss in Ramadan with pre- and post-workout fuel
Catch Taraweh, Qiyaam and get a full night’s sleep.
Less likely to overeat at Iftar after doing a great workout
Ideal for Ramadan in winter timezone for late Suhoor
Ideal if you have complete control over your schedule and don’t mind eating a later dinner.
BUT for Ramadan in summer, not enough time to workout before Taraweh
May interrupt family dinner time in Ramadan
⭐️ Workout with your family! Do a short workout to catch taraweh as well.

OPTION 3: Workout 1 to 2 hours after Iftar
Safe, no dehydration, decreases risk for muscle loss
BUT not enough time before Taraweh to exercise
May feel bloated when exercising after taraweh
⭐️Take your time after Iftar and make sure you are not feeling bloated when starting your workout. Avoid overeating at Iftar.

OPTION 4: Workout after Taraweh
Perform a quick workout after coming home from Taraweh before bed.
Risk becoming nocturnal in Ramadan and missing night prayers
Prioritise sleep in Ramadan!
⭐️Unwind with some light exercise before bed

OPTION 5: Workout fasted before Iftar
May increase fat burn by exercising while fasted
Workout in Ramadan before Iftar is popular for easy logistics
BIG risk for dehydration - potentially unsafe!
⭐️Go for a brisk walk. Do something safe and light and keep it pretty easy.

OPTION 6: DON’T WORKOUT, BUT INCREASE OVERALL MOVEMENT WHILE FASTING
Move around as MUCH as you can in Ramadan.
