Captain Saris: IN SEARCH OF THE LOST ENGLISH SAMURAI.

Описание к видео Captain Saris: IN SEARCH OF THE LOST ENGLISH SAMURAI.

From the documentary series "In Search of the Lost English Samurai".

Will Adams has always been presented front and centre, as the first English speaker to reach Japanese shores.

Imagine my surprise then, upon opening an official guidebook, at Kotoku-in temple, the location of the Great Buddha of Kamakura, to read an English language account of the mighty statue, from the same era as Adams was in the region, by another English sailor.

Who was this 'Captain John Saris'? Why was he in Kamakura? Was he an acquaintance of Will Adams? My subsequent investigation revealed a treasure trove of information...
