How to fix a vacuum cleaner not turning on - Quick Easy Fix for £1.00 or $1.00

If your vacuum cleaner or hoover is not turning on anymore, in this youtube video tutorial I will show you a very simple fix to a very common problem with many vacuum cleaners.

So this is from VAX, model Energise C85-E2-PE, but this fix should really work for any vacuum cleaner. When plugged into the main socket and turning the machine on, there is no life, ie no power.

Due to the nature of vacuum cleaners, you will often plug it into a socket and over stretch the power cord when hoovering between rooms, to the point of exerting unnecessary pressure at this point here where the end of the plug joins with the cord. Consequently, pulling onto it can cause the electrical wires inside to break at the point of pressure, and that's not always obvious from the outside due to the sealed nature of these power cords.

A disclaimer first, it is possible that there could be other issues like the motor died or a circuit board inside died, or even something else. So this fix is really for those who are out of warranty, and for those who are unable to access the inside of the machine and who do not have enough electrical know how and confidence to open it up to test with a multimeter. And if you were about to throw it away, like many people do, just try this simple repair which should cost you no more than a £1.00 or $1.00, or even free as many people have spare plugs lying around, and should take only around 10 minutes of your time, and of course would save you the cost of buying a new one.

Before you change the plug, physically inspect the device to see if the actual on button switch is broken. Next check for power coming from your mains or extension cord by plugging a known working device. Also, consider replacing the fuse inside the plug which may have blown, make sure you match the Amp, in this case it's 13 Amp. And if that fails, then go ahead and change the plug.
