This week I'm testing different colours of oil based food colouring and want to show you how easy it is to create a range of different colours from our 3 primary starter colours: red, yellow and blue.

In this video, you'll learn the basics of colour mixing which is a great technique to learn if you don't own a lot of different food colourings. Of course, it is possible to buy almost every colour conceivable these days but why spend all that money when you can make the colours yourself. I love to save you money wherever I can.

Oil based food colouring can be used in buttercream, cream, baking, fondant, chocolate and ganache. I would not recommend using this type of colouring in royal icing or meringue as the oil will affect your egg white and cause it to split. However, the same colour mixing principles apply to water based food colouring which you can use with royal icing and meringue.
