Root Word and Affixes
First, let’s discuss root words. A ROOT WORD is the base unit of a word or word part that can form new words. These are the words that we are familiar with. Words like happy, logic, like, and worthy are examples of root words.
On the other hand, AFFIXES are letters added to root words to form new words. Words like unhappy, illogical, likely, and unworthy have different meanings from their root
words and were formed by adding affixes.

There are two kinds of AFFIXES:
PREFIXES are letters added at the beginning of a root word.
SUFFIXES are letters added at the end of a root word.
