We have yet another edition of State Parks you've never heard of and if you love history, desert landscapes, and super unique structures, this place belongs on your road trip list. The park is home to six massive beehive-shaped charcoal ovens built in the 1870s to process ore from nearby silver mines. They’re shockingly well preserved - and walking inside them feels like stepping into another era.

📍Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park

Here’s everything you need to know before you go:
🏜️ The ovens were used to turn wood into charcoal for mining operations, and each one could hold nearly 35 cords of wood. Today, they’re one of the most intact sets of charcoal ovens in the West.
🚗 Located near Ely, NV - it’s an easy detour if you’re traveling Highway 50 (aka the Loneliest Road in America).
🥾 Short interpretive trails let you explore the ovens and surrounding sagebrush desert.
🐶 Dog-friendly on leash, but watch paws in summer - desert ground gets HOT.
🌅 Sunset and golden hour are extra magical here - the light hits the ovens in the most unreal way.
