Snow at the top of Tukino and DEEP river crossing

Join us as we drive to the snowline at the top of Tukino road and the Tukino snow field. Then we tackle a deep river crossing in the base at the back of Mount Ruapehu.

The Tukino Mountain Road is a 4WD alpine road rising up from 1000 metres on the Desert Road (SH1) to 1700 metres at the Tukino Alpine Village. The drive up to Tukino on the eastern slopes of Mount Ruapehu is otherworldly and could be the set of a sci-fi movie on another planet. It becomes even more surreal as you crest a hill and see the snow-covered peaks of Tukino. Mount Ruapehu is a volcanic mountain in Tongariro National Park and in this video we not only explore on the mountain, but also some offroad tracks at the bottom. There is a very deep river crossing near the end of the video that’s well worth a watch. With Limitless Evolution

10th August 2024: On this trip we are driving a 2022 Toyota Fortuner. It is basically stock with a bull bar, winch, front recovery points, rock sliders and a snorkel. The tires are Falken Wildpeak AT3 and slightly larger than the regular 31s that come from the factory; 265/70/R17.
