In one of the worst natural disasters in Spain’s modern history,at least 95 people,including four children, have died after flash floods devastated southeastern parts of the country.

The widespread flooding was caused by torrential rainfall, with reports claiming that as much as a year’s worth of rain fell in eight hours in the Valencia region.

Video of the damage in Almeria and Valencia showed swollen rivers of floodwater overwhelming streets and sweeping away vehicles.

The authorities report that 92 people have died in the region of Valencia and two in Castilla-La Mancha.

A 71-year-old Briton was also confirmed dead in Alhaurín de la Torre, a town in Malaga, according to Juanma Moreno, the president of the Andalusia region. Moreno said the man had suffered from hypothermia before dying of a cardiac arrest in hospital hours after he was rescued from his home.
