Christianity summed up in 5 minutes. XD Scene from the movie Agora. Cyril, nephew of Theophilus, is aiming to gain more and more power in the city of Alexandria. He asks the prefect of the city, Orestes, to the temple in order to talk and reconcile but instead uses the Bible to discredit Hypatia, who is an important counselor to Orestes (not to forget in the movie he is also in love with her). Orestes, a baptised Christian, is now under pressure to accept the words of the Bible concerning women (that he doesn't really believe in) in front of everyone but doing so would mean to condemn Hypatia and to submit to Cyril. So he refuses to kneel and a mob of riled up Christian fanatics tries to stone him.

The events in real life were very similar: Cyril was aiming for power, constantly undermined Orestes authority, who tried to keep all kinds of religions under one roof in Alexandria. He asked Orestes to reconcile and accept a Bible from him. Orestes refused because it would have meant to submit to Cyril. Shortly after a Christian mob assualted Orestes and tried to stone him. Apparently in reality Orestes' guards let him down because they were scared and he was rescued by the people of Alexandria.

Apart from the historical events and significance, as Cyril's meddling against Orestes indeed lead to him, and in a way Christianity, finally taking over the city, I think it shows a couple of other interesting aspects. That monotheism, right from the start ,was untilised for politics by influencing gullibel people who did the dirty work for the well educated and clever minds such as Cyril and his uncle Theophilus. They did the talking and the riling up, the masses did the dirty work.
It also gives a glimps at a time when Pagans had to take on the Christian faith, howl with the wolves, even if they did not fully or not at all agree with the words of the Bible and how one religion can take over by sheer mass, ignorance and fear through physical and psycholgical violence. No religion has ever done it better than Christian faith.
