In this episode we awaken after getting knocked out by our trainer and mentor, Lord Varios. He believes in us, but no one else seems to. After having a quick chat with our healer friend Lowe, Lord Varios seems to have gotten some bad news, and quickly hurries off. We wander around a bit, learning of rumors that the city-state of Runefaust plans an invasion, and are currently engaging in unknown, but threatening, activities around the Gate of the Ancients. Not wanting to alarm the populace, the king asks us to stop Runefaust's nefarious activities with a ragtag group of adventurers because we can slip out of town unnoticed. Our friends Tao, Luke, Ken, Hans, and Lowe join us to take a horse-drawn carriage to the Gate, only to be confronted by goblins, dwarves, and a Rune Knight commander, who seems to be trying to reopen it. We initially flee the combat to visit a nearby coastal abode, where a monk named Gong decides to join the Force to combat Runefaust, as he says he has done for years. We also encounter a helmeted hamster named Jogurt, but he stays behind. Reentering the fray with our new recruit, we swiftly dispatch the enemy forces, but learn that in our absence Runefaust has attacked our hometown, Guardania. Making matters worse, an earthquake has left the fastest route back untraversable. Making our way through rough terrain, we dispatch the defending forces of Runefaust, and rush to find what has become of our home.
