State Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell) introduces House Resolution 1345, legislation that would affirm the state's adoption of the Common Core standards.

Georgia has adopted a set of core standards for kindergarten through high school in English language arts, mathematics, and grades 6-12 literacy in science, history/social studies, and technical subjects. The Common Core Georgia Performance Standards provide a framework designed to prepare students for success in college and/or the workplace. The Common Core standards were developed by a coalition of 47 states led by Georgia, and the state began implementing the standards in 2010.

"There have been arguments made on both sides of this issue, but the one thing on which we can all agree is that we want to do what is best for kids. I am standing with Georgia students and parents to offer HR 1345 because we believe Georgia's Common Core standards are what is best for our children," said Morgan after introducing the bill.
