Maytime (B.G. De Sylva – Vincent Rose)
played by
Sam Lanin's Dance Orchestra
Regal 9684-A
(78 rpm record)

To those who collect early 78 rpm dance band records, Sam Lanin needs no introduction. But if you want to find out a little, please refer to this source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Lanin

Really hard to find the personnel of this one, as Regal’s numbering system gets messy in the late 1920s. I figured this was probably acoustic and worked backwards to 1924 and found it.

Johnson & Shirley (American Dance Bands on Record and Film 1915 – 1942) gives the following personnel for this recording:

Possibly Red Nichols (cornet); either Phil Napoleon or Vic d’Ippolito (trumpets); Hymie Farberman (trumpet); Sam Lewis (trombone); Dick Johnson, Alfie Evans (clarinet, alto sax); possibly Goof Moyer (tenor sax); Bill Krenz (piano); John Cali (banjo); Bill Short (brass bass); Jack Roth (drums). Recorded in New York, c. July 1, 1924.

I hear some "hot" playing by either a trumpet or cornet, so that could be either Nichols or Napoleon. I still have this one somewhere. Images from discogs.com. Noise reduced by using Vinyl Studio software.
