The Nazi Concentration Camp On British Soil - Alderney, Channel Islands

Описание к видео The Nazi Concentration Camp On British Soil - Alderney, Channel Islands

Recently research has been conducted on the Channel Island of Alderney. During the Second World War, the Channel Islands were the only part of 'Britain' that the German Army or the Nazi's managed to capture. The occupation of the Channel Islands is regarded as a softer occupation than the brutal taking of France or Poland for example. However one awful reality is that Concentration Camps to house political prisoners and Jews were built on Alderney. At one in particular called Sylt, much brutality, murder and persecution took place.

The recent archaeological research conducted showed a large concentration camp with many different buildings. From what we know, executions did take place at Sylt and also the conditions were awful to be imprisoned within. Recent research has uncovered around 30 different buildings with different purposes, including cramped barracks where prisoners would have slept, guardhouses and much more.

Join us today as we look at the Nazi SS controlled concentration camp on British soil, Sylt.
