Описание к видео The EU and a Feminist Global Trade

The third event in the In Focus series ‘A Feminist EU in the World?’ focuses on the role of the European Union as a global trade actor. The panel participants have background in both academia and a policy making and include: Susan Harris Rimmer, Silke Trommer and Maya Taselaar.

The panel debate will critically evaluate the EU’s contribution to the promoting feminist perspectives in global trade governance. How can the EU promote more trade agreements that are more inclusive of gender questions? What are the effects of EU trade policy on other (especially developing) countries in the global arena? Can the EU contribute to redefining the purpose of global trade in ways that value, prioritize and support progressive forms of social reproduction? The debate includes experts with experience in policy and academia, creating a unique forum to discuss the current challenges and the proposals for a more feminist EU trade policy.

About the speakers
Susan Harris Rimmer (Griffith University) is a Professor and the Director of the Griffith University Policy Innovation Hub. She is an expert in women’s rights and international law. She was involved with the creation of the position of the Global Ambassador for Women and Girls; and supported the creation of the W20 summit in Turkey, and the C20 in Australia (civil society grouping giving policy advice to the G20).

Silke Trommer (Manchester University) works as a Senior Lecturer in Comparative Public Policy at the University of Manchester. Together with Dr Adrienne Roberts, Politics, University of Manchester, and Dr Erin Hannah, King's University College at Western University, she holds a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Insight Development grant titled "She Trades: Gendering Global Trade Governance". The purpose of the research is to explore how and why the idea of adressing the gender-differential impact of trade is currently becoming a global policy norm.

Maya Taselaar (Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs) works as a trade policy officer responsible for gender issues at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She has studied at University College Utrecht, Nanyang Technological University and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
