A short reflection from Archbishop Jeremy Greaves on the Gospel reading set for Sunday 26 October 2025 – Luke 18:15-30

"In Luke 18:15–17, people bring children to Jesus, and the disciples try to turn them away. But Jesus insists, “Let the little children come to me … for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.”

Jesus is not praising children for being innocent or naïve. Rather, he points to their openness, their trust, their eagerness to wonder and to learn. A child-like faith is not childish, but it is curious, questioning, and alive. It refuses to settle for cynicism or despair.

For us, this means that following Jesus is not about having all the answers or protecting ourselves from risk. It is about engaging the world with open hands and open hearts — seeing God’s presence in surprising places, asking deep questions, and daring to hope. To receive the kingdom as a child is to live with trust, wonder, and the courage to be transformed."
