Ringworm also known as dermatophytosis
is a fungal infection. It's usually an itchy,
circular rash with clearer skin in the
middle. Ringworm gets its name because
of its appearance. No worm is involved.
Ringworm infection can affect both
humans and animals.

About 40 different species of fungus can
cause ringworm. They are typically of the
Trichophyton, Microsporum, and
Epidermophyton types.
These fungi can live on your skin and other
surfaces, particularly damp areas. They may
also live for an extended period of time as
spores in soil.

Ringworm can be found on the following parts of the body;

1) Skin, which is referred to as Tinea corporis
2) Scalp, which is referred to as Tinea capitis
3) Beard, which is referred to as Tinea Barbae
4) Hands, which is referred to as Tinea manuum
5) Groin, which is referred to as Tinea cruris
6) Feet, which is referred to as Tinea pedis
7) Nails which is referred to as Tinea unguium ( Onychomycosis )
