This is a recording of three settings of Psalm 24.

The first two settings come from an anonymous early seventeenth century manuscript, the Lynar B7 tablature. The settings found in this document are rudimentary in nature, featuring simple, mostly unadorned counterpoint. It is theorized that these settings are the work of students of an unidentified contemporary of Jan Sweelinck, and that they most likely come from the Northern Netherlands, dating from c. 1620 - 1640 (Dirksen). The manuscript also contains one setting of the Lutheran chorale tune, "Erhalt uns Herr, Bei Deinem Wordt" recorded by a different, also anonymous copyist (Dirksen). The setting of Psalm 24 from this document consists of two verses, the first with the psalm tune in the cantus, and the second with it in the bass.

The final psalm setting is the third of three verses by Anthoni van Noordt (1619 - 1675). This is the last psalm setting in van Noordt's "Tablatuurboeck van Psalmen en Fantasyen" of 1659. It is expertly constructed, featuring an active imitative motive, and again featuring the psalm tune in the bass. It is likely that this setting was the only verse in van Noordt's collection truly intended to be played with an organo pleno sound (van Nieuwkoop).
