Apple AirTags vs Samsung SmartTag Plus vs Tile: Which bluetooth tracker is better?

Let’s talk about Bluetooth trackers. Apple recently launched the AirTag, Samsung launched the SmartTag and SmartTag Plus, and Tile has been the leading Bluetooth tracker on the market since about 2014 with currently four trackers to choose from. There are quite a few similarities between these trackers and a few differences worth noting. Consider this a review and a bit of a buying guide!

Feature and spec-wise the AirTag, SmartTags, and Tile Pro are very similar aside from the UWB capability which Tile says will be coming sometime this year. But, I feel like it’s kind of unfortunate for Tile that Apple and Samsung came out with the AirTag and SmartTags because their reach is so much greater. Again, Apple has almost a billion devices on their network, Samsung has 70 million with the potential for 700 million to opt-in, and Tile has only 30 million. I honestly think that if Apple and Samsung were to add a Smart Alerts style feature, that could eliminate a huge chunk of Tile’s potential business. Remember, Tile requires others to have purchased tile devices to find things, The SmartTag and SmartTag+ work through smartphones and tablets, and the AirTag works through the multitude of products Apple sells. So, probably the only reason to go with Tile would be for the additional subscription-based services.
